I love the Galapagos Islands. Absolutely incredible wildlife”
Nathan Deamer Principal Engineer
What is your biggest achievement at Go City so far?
Moving to a DEVOPs culture in all engineering teams with each team monitoring their code in production. When I started at Go City the main way the teams knew there were problems was because a ticket would come in along the lines of ‘xx is down’. I introduced observability best practices and tooling to alert engineers when there is a problem (hopefully) before any customers even notice. I also encouraged all engineers to think about the non functional requirements alongside every new feature they are building for customers.
If we go back a few years, why did you choose engineering as a career?
I built my first computer at the age of 13 to aid my studies as I had been diagnosed with dyslexia. Word processing my homework allowed me the freedom of thought to develop my ideas and contributed to my educational success. I could see how valuable computers were to all users including people like me. I then started building websites for family members with simple HTML, CSS and Javascript and my love of solving problems with technology continued from there.
Where was your favourite holiday?
Easily the Galapagos Islands. Absolutely incredible wildlife and snorkelling with sharks was amazing!
What is your favourite music or band?
Blink 182 (Yes I am still 15)
Guilty pleasure or hobby?
My smart home - almost everything in my house can be controlled by my voice, ranging from lights, tv, curtains, blinds and washing machine. Scary right?!
What don’t we know about you?
I grew up with lots of animals, ask me about growing up with lizards and marmoset monkeys!
